I got fed up with my computer's shit last night and wiped it out. Formatted the hard drive. I had the intentions of bringing it back with Windows 98 instead of XP. I get the feeling that my sad little K6 466 isn't strong enough for it. It doesn't seem to be, anyway. So as I was loading 98, I came to the problem I always have when I do this: I'd lost the fucking Product Key. God damn Microsoft for creating such a thing. Searched my room high and low for the fucking thing; couldn't find it. Finally gave up. Decided to snatch a copy of 98 from work and use the product key from it.
That in itsself was a problem. I knew where the software was kept in the old office, but we haven't put all the stuff away in the new office yet. A lot of it's still sitting around in boxes. I had to search through countless boxes to find what I was looking for. Took up way too much time. I brought my computer to work, since it wasn't doing me any good at home, and took it apart. We have a commercial-grade air compressor, so I blew all the dust out... I took the power supply apart and lubed the cooling fan at the joint instead of in the crack, as I'd done last time. That seems to have made all the difference. It's almost like brand new. Except for the fact that I had to peel the label off the cooling fan... no biggie.
Came home and installed the crap. 98 didn't want to take, and eventually my patience wore out, so I said fuck it... I'm putting XP in. Seems to be working fine.
Sometime last weekend I checked my bank balance. I do that daily. I'm just curious like that. Thing is, there was a problem. When I call the bank's automated phone line service thinger to get my balance, first thing it tells me is how much money I have. Second thing it tells me is how much money is available for withdrawal, in other words, how much money I really have. So I called Saturday... It told me I had something like $750.00, BUT I only had $150 of it available. This made no sense to me, because I sure hadn't spent six hundred dollars. I checked my bank's website to see where my money had gone, but apparently it hadn't gone through yet... hence the difference in amounts. Every day since Saturday I've kept a close eye on this situation.
Today the amounts finally matched. Came out to be about a hundred fifty, same as it was Saturday. Previously I thought it might be a bank error or maybe my paycheck hadn't gone through (even though my paycheck's not six hundred fucking dollars), just something. But nope...
So I checked to see where this money had gone. Looks like a little over $450 of my money was taken out of my checking account and given to something called IFund-Intersafe. I did not know what this was, so I looked it up. Best I can tell, this is something that handles gambling transactions online.
I have never gambled online.
Anyway. I'm not very happy about this. I'm not sure what to do about it. Figure I'll go to the bank tomorrow and talk to someone about it. To put things in perspective... $450.00 is more money than I make in a week. If I lose that, it's a week of my life down the shitter.
